Job openings with the Strats team at Standard Chartered Bank

The Strats team at Standard Chartered are hiring again. We have openings for various roles. These will typically involve direct contact with traders to automate processes, often in rapid delivery style.

With more than 86,000 employees in 68 countries, and a 150-year history in some of the world’s most dynamic markets, Standard Chartered is listed on the London and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges as well as the Bombay and National Stock Exchanges in India.

The Strats team consists of about 40 developers in either Singapore or London, working exclusively in Haskell. Dozens of people from other teams are also writing Haskell code, so this is a chance to join the largest Haskell dev team in the world, and work on the largest Haskell codebase (over 3 million lines of code).

We currently offer both contractor and permanent positions with competitive compensation. We require demonstrated experience in typed FP (Haskell, OCaml, F# etc); no financial background is required. We also require physical presence in either Singapore, London, or Hong Kong. Flexible work arrangements are possible, but relocation to the UK, Singapore, or Hong Kong is necessary.

We’re hiring at all levels, so don’t be discouraged from applying if you’re just finishing college, or are getting back into FP after a break. We encourage and support both on the job as training as well as attending (FP or job related) conferences or training.

If this sounds exciting to you, please email the following to  strats-jobs AT sc DOT com:

  • Your CV
  • A short motivation text
  • Coding samples (preferably publicly available)
  • Whether you’d be interested in working in London and/or Singapore and/or Hong Kong
  • Whether you already have the right to work in those locations or you would need SCB to sponsor your visa application.

We are committed to building a culture that fosters a diverse and inclusive environment that’s free from bias, where everyone can realise their full potential and make a positive contribution. This is just one of our values that is expressed in our brand promise – here for good.

  1. Possibly I am doing something wrong but I tried to apply and my email bounced from that address.

  2. I have 2 curious questions:

    (1) Why does Strats team hire again and again? Does it mean the turnover is very high?
    (2) I am not a graduate or any hands-on experience in FP before, bur want to learn it. Do your team consider the candidates like me?

    Thanks!

    • The Strats team needs trained FP developers, hence the job openings and need for FP experience.

      Kind regards,
      Atze
